Rory Kincaid, football, cricket and racing

Rory Kincaid writes about the sports that run from August to May on one side of the world and from October to March on the other: football, cricket, racing, golf, tennis and rugby. His guides begin with the rule most likely to catch a bettor out, whether it is extra time in a cup tie, a rain-shortened one-day international or a Rule 4 deduction, and only then turn to the sportsbooks.

What Rory covers

• Settlement first. Every sport guide opens with the rules that decide a bet, before any operator is named.
• The calendar. League and event guides carry dates from a named source, and say so when a date is not yet published.
• The coin. Each guide matches the coin to how long a bet stays open, from a two-hour single to a season-long future.

How Rory works

Rory writes from the competition's own rules and calendar, and from the sportsbooks' general betting rules. He does not tip, predict results or quote odds that will have moved by the time a reader arrives. Where a fixture date or a rule could not be confirmed from a named source, it is left out rather than guessed.
