Crypto golf betting: outrights, each-way places and dead heats
A golf outright is a bet against a field of well over a hundred players, and it can sit open for four days or for weeks. That makes the place terms, the dead-heat rule and the coin you stake in matter more than in any other sport.

In golf the favourite can be a longer price than the outsider in a two-way match. With a field of around 150 players, even the best golfer in the world rarely starts much shorter than 5.00 by our estimate, and most of the field sits at 50.00 or longer. Crypto golf betting is therefore a game of small stakes on long prices, and the details of how a place is paid decide whether a decent week shows a profit.
Outrights against a full field
An outright is a bet on the winner of the tournament. At a major such as The Open the starting field is 156 players, and only the top 70 and ties survive the 36-hole cut to play the weekend.
Three things follow from the size of the field:
- Prices are long. A golfer at 41.00 can be a genuine contender. Spreading small stakes over several players is normal.
- The overround is large. With so many runners, the book's margin is spread across a long list, and it is often bigger than in a two-way market. Comparing prices between sportsbooks matters more here.
- Bets stay open. An outright placed on Monday settles on Sunday evening, or on Monday if weather or a play-off pushes the finish back. An ante-post bet placed weeks earlier stays open even longer.
If a tournament is cut short by weather, the sportsbook's golf rules decide whether bets settle on the reduced number of rounds. Read that section before betting an event in a stormy season.
Each-way terms and place fractions
Each-way splits one stake into two equal bets: a win bet and a place bet. A 10 USDT each-way bet costs 20 USDT in total.
If your player wins, both halves pay. If he finishes inside the places but does not win, the place half pays at a fraction of the win odds. As an example, with terms of one-fifth the odds for the top eight:
| Example | Win odds | Finish | Win half (10 USDT) | Place half (10 USDT) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Player A | 51.00 | 1st | Pays 510 | Pays 110 at 11.00 |
| Player B | 51.00 | 6th | Lost | Pays 110 at 11.00 |
| Player C | 51.00 | 12th | Lost | Lost |
The place odds are worked out as 1 plus one-fifth of the 50 points of profit in the win price, giving 11.00. These terms are an example only. Each sportsbook sets its own fraction and number of places per event, and for the majors some extend the places. Comparing each-way terms is as important as comparing the win price.
Racing bettors will know the mechanism; our horse racing guide covers the same idea with smaller fields.
Dead heats, top-10 and match bets
Top-5, top-10 and top-20 markets pay if your player finishes inside the line. They suit a golfer you rate but do not expect to win.
The catch is the dead-heat rule. Golfers often tie, and when players share the last paying position, the stake is divided. The calculation:
- Count the players tied for the position.
- Count the places still available inside the line.
- The stake paid at full odds is the stake multiplied by places left and divided by players tied.
Example: a 10 USDT top-10 bet at 4.00. Your player finishes tied for tenth with two others, and one place inside the top ten is left. A third of the stake, about 3.33 USDT, is paid at 4.00, returning about 13.33 USDT. The rest of the stake is lost. A bet that looked like a winner returns little more than the stake.
Match bets (or head-to-heads) pit two named golfers against each other over a round or the tournament. They remove the field from the question. Check whether the market offers a tie option, and how the house treats a player who misses the cut while the other makes it.
The 2027 majors calendar
The PGA Tour has published its 2027 schedule through the TOUR Championship. The four majors, with championship rounds:
- The Masters: 8–11 April, Augusta National Golf Club, Georgia.
- PGA Championship: 20–23 May, PGA Frisco, Texas.
- U.S. Open: 17–20 June, Pebble Beach Golf Links, California.
- The Open: 15–18 July, the Old Course at St Andrews, Scotland.
Before them, THE PLAYERS Championship is played at TPC Sawgrass in the week of 8–14 March. After them, the FedExCup Playoffs start with the top 70 players and end with a 30-man TOUR Championship at East Lake in Atlanta in the week of 23–29 August.
Ante-post prices for the Masters are available months before April, which is exactly when the coin question becomes important. Readers in Ireland and the UK will find the US majors finishing late in the evening local time, while The Open plays out in daylight hours.
Why crypto golf betting favours stablecoins
A football bet is open for two hours. A golf outright placed in January for the Masters is open for three months. If the stake is in a volatile coin, the bet carries a second, hidden wager on the price of that coin.
Consider an example. You stake 0.001 BTC on a player at 26.00 in January. He wins in April. The return is 0.026 BTC, but what that is worth in your own currency depends on where bitcoin trades in April, not in January. The golfer did his job; the coin may not have.
A stablecoin removes that layer. Tether describes USDT as pegged 1:1 to the US dollar, so a 20 USDT stake returns 520 USDT at 26.00 whenever the bet settles. For crypto golf betting, with long prices and long waits, that predictability is worth more than in any short-format sport.
Practical points:
- Keep the golf part of a bankroll in USDT or USDC.
- Use a low-fee network for small outright stakes across several players.
- Record each ante-post bet with its date and coin, so you know what is still open.
Our bankroll guide covers how much of a balance to commit to bets that stay open for months.

Before you send a golf slip
- Read the each-way fraction and the number of places for this event.
- Check the dead-heat rule for top-10 and similar markets.
- For match bets, check how a missed cut or a withdrawal is settled.
- Note when the final round ends in your own time zone.
- Stake in a stablecoin if the bet will be open for more than a few days.
