An Irish betting year has three engines. Gaelic games fill the summer, jump racing fills the winter, and rugby and the Premier League run underneath both. Hurling and football: price the scoreline, not the badge
GAA markets look familiar until you read the scoring. In hurling a goal is worth three and a point is worth one. Gaelic football now has three values: the goal at three, the point at one, and since 2025 a two-point score for kicks from outside the 40-metre arc. Senior inter-county games in both codes last 70 minutes, two halves of 35.
That two-point score changed football totals. A side that used to need two kicks to add two now needs one long one, and the line on total points has to absorb that. When a bookmaker prices a football total, ask whether the number was set on recent matches under the new rules or on older seasons. The scoreline 1–14 is seventeen points; 2–15 is twenty-one. Handicaps are quoted on the same combined count.
The championship window is short and fixed. In 2026 hurling ran from 18 April to the final on 19 July, and football from 11 April to its final on 26 July, played as a 16-team modified double-elimination. Outrights open in spring and settle in late July, so a stake placed in April is tied up for three months. For that kind of wait, a stablecoin is the sensible unit; more on that below.
What to bet on, in order of how readable the market is:
- Match handicap. The cleanest GAA market. Two even teams, one line, settled on the combined score.
- Total points. Read the line against the scoring change in football before you take the over.
- Winning margin bands. Useful when a favourite is likely to win by a goal or more.
- Outrights. Long wait, wide prices, and the draw for later rounds is not known when you stake.

Two things matter for a racing bettor paying in crypto. First, the field for a big handicap such as the Galway Plate changes up to the day, so an ante-post stake can lose to a non-runner. Rugby at the Aviva: November, then the Six Nations
Ireland play three home Tests this November in the new Nations Championship, all at the Aviva Stadium: Argentina on 6 November, Fiji on 14 November and South Africa on 21 November. A finals weekend follows at Twickenham from 27 to 29 November, with the title match on 29 November at 16:40 GMT. Ireland's opponent on that weekend depends on where they finish in the pool, so the market only firms up once the last round is played.

Premier League on Irish clocks
Ireland keeps the same clock as Britain: GMT in winter, one hour ahead in summer, changing on the same Sundays. The clocks go back on 25 October 2026. There is no conversion to do, which is rarer than it sounds for crypto bettors; a 15:00 Saturday kick-off in London is 15:00 in Dublin.

Most Irish bettors start with euros in a bank account. The usual route is bank transfer to a crypto exchange, buy a coin there, then withdraw to your own wallet and deposit from it.
