Esports with a crypto balance: series, maps and the season calendar
Esports markets look like football markets with new names, but they settle on maps, rounds and series rather than minutes. Get the series format right and most of the pricing makes sense on its own.

In esports the unit of settlement is not time but the map. A best-of-three can finish in under two hours or drag past four, and the price you take depends on how the series is built. Crypto esports betting adds a fast deposit and a fast payout to that structure, which suits a sport played around the clock across time zones.
Four games, four ways to win a map
Each title on the coupon decides a map differently, and that changes which markets make sense.
- Counter-Strike 2. Two sides, rounds of attack and defence. Valve's MR12 format caps regulation at 24 rounds: first to 13 takes the map. At 12–12 the teams play a six-round overtime, three on each side, and the first to four wins it.
- League of Legends. One game per map, won by destroying the enemy Nexus. There are no rounds, so the side markets are about objectives: first blood, first tower, first dragon, game length.
- Dota 2. Also one game per map, ending with the enemy Ancient. Games can run long, which makes duration lines a popular market.
- Valorant. Round-based like CS2, with attack and defence halves, so round handicaps and totals carry over from Counter-Strike.
The practical lesson is that a round handicap means something in CS2 and Valorant but nothing in League of Legends or Dota 2, where kill handicaps and duration lines take its place.
Series formats and map handicaps
Most esports matches are a best-of-one, best-of-three or best-of-five. The format sets the possible scorelines, and the map handicap is built on them.
| Market | Best-of-three wins when | Loses when |
|---|---|---|
| Team -1.5 maps | 2–0 | 2–1, 1–2, 0–2 |
| Team +1.5 maps | 2–0, 2–1, 1–2 | 0–2 |
| Over 2.5 maps | 2–1 or 1–2 | 2–0 or 0–2 |
| Correct score 2–1 | 2–1 only | All other scores |
Price example: a favourite at 1.40 to win the series might be 2.30 at -1.5 maps, our estimate of how a sportsbook would price the extra risk of dropping one map. That gap is the cost of insisting on a clean sweep. In a best-of-one the map handicap does not exist, and in CS2 a round handicap replaces it: -3.5 rounds needs a margin of at least four, such as 13–9.
Best-of-ones are the most volatile format, because one bad map ends the match. When a stage switches from best-of-one to best-of-three, the same two teams can be priced very differently.
Remakes, forfeits and other edge cases
Esports produces settlement situations football never meets. Three to know about:
- Remakes. In League of Legends a game can be restarted early under tournament rules after a technical fault. Whether bets placed before the restart stand depends on the sportsbook's esports rules, and the answer is often different for map-winner markets and for in-game markets such as first blood.
- Forfeits and walkovers. A team can lose a match without playing, through a no-show or a disqualification. Some rules settle on the official result from the organiser; others void markets where no map was played.
- Technical pauses. A pause in a CS2 round or a Valorant map does not change settlement on its own, but live prices are suspended until play resumes.
None of these is predictable from the price. They are written in the rules, and crypto esports betting is safer for anyone who reads the esports section of those rules once before the season starts.
The 2026–27 tournament calendar
These dates come from the organisers' published schedules:
- Valorant Champions 2026 is under way in Shanghai, running from 24 September to 18 October 2026 with 16 teams.
- League of Legends World Championship 2026 starts with a play-in in Los Angeles on 15 to 18 October, moves to Allen, Texas for the Swiss stage on 23 to 31 October and the knockouts on 3 to 8 November, and ends with the final at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on 14 November. The Swiss stage opens with best-of-ones; the knockouts are best-of-five. Our Worlds page follows each stage.

- CS2 Majors of 2027 are set for Buenos Aires from 31 May to 20 June and for Shanghai from 22 November to 12 December.
Earlier in 2026, the first CS2 Major was played in Cologne in June, and Dota 2's The International was held in Shanghai in August.

Esports runs late into the night in Europe and early in the morning in Asia, so the time between a final map and money in your wallet matters. The list starts with Vave and then follows payout times as each operator publishes them.

Wild.io states 10–60 minutes. Rainbet's main page says 5–15 minutes in normal conditions; that line is not a clause in its rules. Rocketpot pays within 72 hours under clause 11.3, and Vave allows up to 3 days under clause 8.1. Rakebit and DuckDice do not print a payout time. Our methodology explains the order.
Which coin for which esports bet
A single CS2 map settles inside an hour, so the coin barely moves between bet and payout. A tournament outright on a three-week Major is different: USDT is pegged one-to-one with the dollar by its issuer, which keeps the stake's value level while the event plays out. If you trade prices between maps, the live betting guide covers suspensions, and the sport hub lists the other games we cover.
A checklist before the first map
- Confirm the series format: best-of-one, three or five.
- Check whether the round or kill handicap includes overtime.
- Read the sportsbook's clause on remakes and forfeits.
- Match the coin to the length of the bet.
- Set a limit for long nights of live betting and keep support options within reach.
