Betting on baseball with crypto: reading the MLB market
Baseball is priced around one person: the starting pitcher. Read who is listed, how extra innings are played and how many games a season holds before you choose a coin or a sportsbook.

A baseball price is mostly a price on two pitchers. Before anything else, find out who is starting, because a late change on the mound can move the moneyline more than any injury in the batting order. Crypto changes only the money side of the bet: the coin you fund with, the network fee and how long a withdrawal takes. The market itself reads the same way at any book.
The three core markets in MLB
Most crypto MLB betting starts with three markets. Each answers a different question about the game.
- Moneyline. Who wins, extra innings included. There is no draw in baseball, so it is a two-way price. A strong home starter against a weak road one might show, as an example, 1.62 against 2.40.
- Run line. A handicap of 1.5 runs. The favourite at -1.5 must win by two or more; the underdog at +1.5 covers by winning or by losing by a single run. Because one-run games are common in baseball, the +1.5 side is often the shorter price of the two, so look at both numbers before you pick a side.
- Totals. Combined runs against a line such as 8.5. The number moves with the starters, the park and the weather. A ballpark with short fences on a warm evening pushes the line up; a cold April night in a northern city pulls it down.
Two narrower markets are worth knowing. First-five-innings bets settle on the score after five innings, which isolates the starters and removes the bullpen. Team totals ask how many runs one side scores, useful when you rate one lineup but have no view on the other.
Listed pitchers and action bets in crypto MLB betting
This is the rule that catches new baseball bettors. When you place a moneyline or total, the slip normally names both starting pitchers. Under a listed pitchers setting, the bet stands only if both named men throw the first pitch for their sides. If one is scratched, the bet is voided and the stake goes back to your balance.
The alternative is action: the bet stands whoever starts. Some books let you choose per bet, some default to one setting, and some offer a middle option where only one pitcher must start. The house sports rules say which applies, so read the baseball section of the terms before you bet early in the day.
Why it matters for a crypto bettor: a void returns the stake in the coin you used, but if that coin moved while the bet waited, the returned stake is worth something different in your own currency. A stablecoin avoids that.
| Setting | Listed starter is scratched | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Listed pitchers (both) | Bet voided, stake returned | Bettors pricing the matchup on the arms |
| One pitcher listed | Void only if that man does not start | A view on one starter only |
| Action | Bet stands at the new price | Bettors backing a lineup or a park |
Extra innings and how they settle
Since the 2020 season MLB has placed a runner on second base at the start of every extra half-inning in the regular season, and the league made the rule permanent. The runner is the player who made the last out of the previous inning. The effect on betting is plain: games past the ninth tend to end sooner, and a run often scores in the tenth.
The postseason is different. Extra innings in October start with the bases empty, as they always did. That changes how totals behave late in a tied playoff game, and it is one reason a tied playoff game can run long into the night.
Full-game markets count extra innings unless the market says otherwise. Read the market name: a “regulation” or “nine innings” market is a different bet from the full game.
The October calendar and the 2027 season
The 2026 postseason began on 29 September with the best-of-three Wild Card Series. The Division Series run from 3 to 10 October. The National League Championship Series starts on 11 October and the American League series a day later. The World Series opens on Friday 23 October, and a seventh game, if needed, falls on Saturday 31 October. Our league page on the World Series covers series prices and how a best-of-seven changes them.
The 2027 regular season starts unusually early. MLB has scheduled one game on 24 March 2027, with the full Opening Day slate on 25 March, and the regular season is due to finish on 26 September. The All-Star Game goes to Wrigley Field in Chicago.
A 162-game season is a long time to keep a bankroll in one coin. Six months of daily games means dozens of small deposits and withdrawals, and network fees add up on each one.
Choosing a coin for crypto MLB betting over six months
A baseball bettor tends to place many small bets rather than a few big ones. That shapes the coin choice more than in any other sport.
- Hold the bankroll in a stablecoin. Tether describes USDT as pegged 1:1 to the US dollar. A stake of 50 USDT is still worth about $50 when the bet settles three hours later, or when a voided bet comes back.
- Pick the cheaper network. The same stablecoin travels on several chains, and the fee for one transfer differs a lot between them. For a 20 or 30 USDT deposit, a high-fee chain can take a visible share of the stake.
- Withdraw in batches. Rather than cashing out after every win, set a threshold, for example once a week, and move larger sums less often.
- Keep a separate record in your own currency. The sportsbook reports in the coin; your bank account does not.
For a fuller treatment of stake sizing across a long season, see our page on bankroll management. It applies to baseball more than to any other sport on this site.

The table ranks sportsbooks by the payout time printed in their own rules, after Vave. Payout speed matters in baseball because winnings come in small amounts and often; a slow cashier keeps a lot of small sums in limbo at once.
Vave first, then ordered by the payout time each operator prints, quickest first
What the operators print about payouts: Rainbet says withdrawals take 5–15 minutes in normal conditions, a line from its main page rather than from its rules. Wild.io gives 10–60 minutes. Rocketpot pays within 72 hours under clause 11.3. Vave pays within up to 3 days under clause 8.1. BetPlays allows up to 5 banking days under clause 6.6. Metaspins prints no payout time in section 12 of its terms.
Licences differ too. Vave, Rocketpot, Metaspins and Wild.io hold Curaçao licences; Rainbet holds an Anjouan licence; BetPlays does not publish a licence number. The methodology page explains how we read each operator's terms.
Reading a baseball slip before you send it
A short routine prevents most avoidable losses in crypto MLB betting:
- Confirm both starters, and whether the slip uses listed pitchers or action.
- Check whether the market is the full game, nine innings or the first five innings.
- Note the start time in your own time zone. A 7 p.m. Eastern first pitch is past midnight in London.
- For totals, glance at the forecast; wind blowing out raises run expectancy in open-air parks.
- Make sure the coin and network in the deposit screen match the wallet you send from.
