Two whistles, nine answers: pricing the HT/FT double result
The double result asks who leads at the break and who wins at the end, and turns a three-way match into nine selections. This guide splits the match price across those nine, shows where the margin lands, and puts a number on how rare a comeback really is.

Half time full time betting, often written HT/FT or double result, asks two questions at once: who is ahead when the first half ends, and who has won when normal time ends? Each question has three answers, home, draw or away, so the market has nine selections. You need both halves of your pick to be right. That makes the prices longer than the 1X2 and the arithmetic more interesting, because the two results are tied together by the scoreline.

The nine outcomes and their fair split
The cleanest way to see the market is to split a match price into its nine parts. The table uses an example match where the home side is expected to score 1.5 goals and the away side 1.1, with 45 % of goals assumed to fall in the first half. That split is a modelling assumption for illustration; the prices carry no margin.
| HT / FT | Model chance | Fair price |
|---|---|---|
| Home / Home | 28.0 % | 3.57 |
| Home / Draw | 5.0 % | 20.16 |
| Home / Away | 1.7 % | 60.49 |
| Draw / Home | 16.0 % | 6.25 |
| Draw / Draw | 15.8 % | 6.31 |
| Draw / Away | 10.5 % | 9.56 |
| Away / Home | 2.4 % | 41.02 |
| Away / Draw | 5.0 % | 20.16 |
| Away / Away | 15.7 % | 6.37 |
Add the rows that end in a home win and you get 46.4 %, the home side's full-time chance in the same model. That is the core idea of half time full time pricing: each 1X2 outcome is shared out across three half-time states. A home win is mostly made up of home/home (28.0 %) and draw/home (16.0 %), with a thin slice of away/home.
The half-time column is just as revealing. In this model the most likely half-time result is a draw, at 42.3 %, because forty-five minutes is a short time to score. That is why the draw/x selections carry so much of the board.
How the price splits, and where the margin goes
A sportsbook adds margin to each of the nine lines. In this example board, the book prices are illustrations, not any operator's numbers:
| HT / FT | Fair price | Example book price | Expected return per 1 USDT |
|---|---|---|---|
| Home / Home | 3.57 | 3.20 | 0.90 |
| Draw / Home | 6.25 | 5.20 | 0.83 |
| Draw / Draw | 6.31 | 5.00 | 0.79 |
| Draw / Away | 9.56 | 8.00 | 0.84 |
| Away / Away | 6.37 | 5.50 | 0.86 |
| Home / Draw | 20.16 | 15.00 | 0.74 |
| Away / Draw | 20.16 | 15.00 | 0.74 |
| Away / Home | 41.02 | 26.00 | 0.63 |
| Home / Away | 60.49 | 34.00 | 0.56 |
Divide one by each book price and add them up: the board comes to 121.3 %, so the overround in this example is about 21 %, against a few percent on a typical 1X2. The cost is not spread evenly. The likeliest line, home/home, keeps about 10 % of each stake; the two comebacks keep a third or more.
Two practical points follow:
- Home/home is not a double. You cannot multiply the half-time home price by the full-time home price, because a team leading at the break is far more likely to win. The two results are correlated, and the book prices them that way.
- Draw/x lines are the market's middle. If you think a favourite will start slowly and pull away late, draw/home is the selection that expresses it, and its price is often better value than the comeback lines either side of it.
Comebacks: how rare they are and how they are priced
A comeback in this market is home/away or away/home, a side behind at the break that wins at the end. In the example model, a home side trailing at half-time goes on to win about 10.6 % of the time. A home side leading at half-time wins about 80.9 % of the time. Level at the break, the home side still wins about 37.8 % of the time.
Those figures explain the prices. Away/home combines a 23.1 % chance of the away side leading at the break with a 10.6 % chance of the home side turning it round, which gives the 2.4 % in the first table. The long price attracts small stakes from many bettors, and books tend to cut long prices more sharply, as the second table shows.
Comebacks are not impossible to back with some logic. A strong home side against a team that scores early and then defends, a fixture where the favourite rotates at the start and brings on its first-choice forwards at the break: these are reasons to think the second half differs from the first. Without such a reason, the price is a lottery ticket with a large house share.
Settlement rules for half time full time
The market settles on two snapshots of the score.
- Half-time. The score when the first half ends, including any added time.
- Full-time. The score at the end of normal time, including added time in the second half. Extra time and penalties are ignored.
- Abandoned matches. Most rulebooks void half time full time bets on a match that is not completed, even if the half-time part was already decided. Some settle differently, so read the football section of the operator's betting rules.
- Own goals and penalties count like any other goal, because the market reads only the score.
Because it depends on exact scorelines at two moments, this market sits close to the correct score guide. A half-time correct score of 0–0 and a full-time 2–1 home win settles as draw/home.

Once the first half ends, the board collapses. If the score is 1–0 at the break, only home/home, home/draw and home/away remain live, and they now trade like a full-time 1X2 on the second half. Some sportsbooks simply suspend the double-result market at half-time and leave you with the second-half and full-time boards.
Before the break, live half time full time prices move with every goal. A goal in the 20th minute removes two thirds of the board at a stroke. The live betting guide explains the suspensions around goals and why in-play margins are often wider than pre-match ones.
When the market fits, and the risks
It fits when your view of a match has a shape in time: a favourite that starts slowly, a side that fades late, two teams that tend to be level at the break. It does not fit as a way to lengthen a price you would otherwise take on the 1X2, because the extra length comes with extra margin.
Risks to keep in front of you:
- Nine outcomes mean frequent losses even on sensible picks.
- The margin is several times larger than on the main match market.
- A sportsbook's settlement clause on abandoned matches decides some bets you thought were won.
Staking a double result in crypto
A half time full time stake works the same in any coin; the price multiplies the stake. What differs is what the return is worth when it leaves the account. A stablecoin return is bought and redeemed one to one with the dollar, with the risk that sits with any issuer holding reserves. A return in ether or another floating coin moves with that coin after the final whistle. Ethereum betting sites compares what it costs to move ETH in and out.
Settled balance helps only if it can leave when you want; fast withdrawal crypto sportsbooks are ordered by the payout periods printed in their terms. For the wider field, the crypto betting platforms page lists ten operators, and the best sites for crypto sports betting are ranked on the home page.
